I think the highlight of this weekend was Friday, before and after the gig. First, Pete and I got to play as a duo for about 45 minutes, with all kinds of tunes complete with vocals, before the group arrived. After most of the players left we had a jam session from 10:30 - 11:30. (Who thought this group could play "Blue Monk"?) Bill, Larry, Mike, Jim, Rich, Dan, Pete and I stayed around for an extra hour and that was the best! Rich and Dan, I hope that we get to try those new tunes you were rehearsing soon. Larry, your playing gets better each time I hear you. I would put you up against the St. Louis players I know anytime.

Reunion Jazz closed out our 2005 season with a terrific reunion in Columbia. We missed those who couldn't be with us, and you missed a fun weekend. We started out with a delicious dinner at JAZZ, Jeff and Matt England's New Orleans restaurant and bar. Everyone agreed that the food is superb, the atmosphere authentic and the service outstanding.
Then off we went to play at the Columbia Country Club. Had a great time playing our favorites, and adding in a few new songs. We all ogled at Mike's new string bass and Tom G's new 1950's Conn Sousaphone.
Evette and Rich hosted a wonderful barbecue on Saturday afternoon. We had perfect weather to relax on their porch with its beautiful view of the lake. Tom Wilkes and his new trombone joined us at Harpo's Saturday night. Lots of our loyal fans showed up and had a good time. Even the hail storm that shook the roof didn't deter us.
And now, it's back home for all of us...except Jim McC, who's probably getting near the halfway mark about now. What a great year! Lots of memories and fun times. Nearly every player joined us for at least one event. We're looking forward to bigger and better things in 2006.
