Andy Waynick -- Trombone -- The Shingle Shakers

Email Andy

Andy Waynick, trombone, began playing with the Shingle Shakers in the fall of 1971 as a part time fill-in for Steve Pendleton, whose schedule was making it difficult to make it to every Saturday night job at the Village Inn. It was Andy's friend, trumpeter Bill Dineen, who had enlisted Andy into the Shingle Shakers. Starting in the fall of 1972, the Shingle Shaker's last year at the VI, Andy was playing full time on Fridays and Saturdays.

Andy loves most forms of jazz including swing, bebop, west coast (cool), straight ahead, and (of course) traditional. His favorite jazz trombonists include Frank Rosolino, Carl Fontana, and Jack Teagarden. Teagarden is his primary source of influence when playing traditional (dixieland) jazz. Andy also loves classical trombone music, and his favorite classical trombonists include Joseph Alessi, Ian Bousfield, Nick Hudson, and Christian Lindberg.

Although Andy has continued to stay connected to music, his formal education is as a chemist. Andy obtained his M.S. in Physical Chemistry from Purdue University in 1977 and has been employed as a research chemist for 26 years. Today, Andy is a senior research chemist at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. Andy has three children. His two daughters are in college; his son is a young aspiring trumpet player who may someday become a second generation Shingle Shaker.
